Emily Andrews Kosolapoff

1939-2018

Emily Andrews Kosolapoff was born on June 21, 1939, in Montgomery, Alabama, and passed away at her home in Auburn on March 3, 2018. She grew up in Montgomery and graduated from Sidney Lanier High School in 1957. Emily attended Auburn University for a short time, but had to return to her home in Montgomery due to illness. She met her husband Michael (Mike) G. Kosolapoff, of Auburn, Alabama, on a blind date in 1964, and they were married months later on July 8, 1964. They spent the first half of their married life together moving frequently as Mike’s assignments in the Army required, and in 1987 the couple retired in their beloved Auburn with their only child, Lara.

Emily found great strength in her Christian faith, and often ended the day reading a devotional in Forward Day by Day. She grew up in the Methodist church but joined the Episcopal church when she married Mike. They were longtime members of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, but she frequently attended services at St. Dunstan’s Episcopal Church at Auburn University, where she served as the administrative assistant for several years and completed the Episcopal Education for Ministry program in 2006. She loved having a front-row seat to the daily comings and goings of St. Dunstan’s and was affectionately called “Ms. Emily” by all the students who lived and attended services there.

Emily had a kind, gentle spirit, and she was a friend to all. Nothing was more important to her than her daughter, Lara, and she enjoyed keeping up with the lives of all of her friends. She loved her five nieces and nephews as if they were her own children.

Emily was a lifelong supporter of social justice causes and of anyone who defended and protected the most vulnerable in this world.  She loved to talk - in person or on the phone, drink coffee, go to the movies, and eat at a great restaurant. There was no view more perfect to her than that of a lake or the ocean on a beautiful day. She loved all animals, but especially songbirds, her kitty cats, and her daughter’s dogs, Scout and Salty.

Emily is survived by her husband, Mike, of Auburn; daughter, Lara M. Kosolapoff-Wright (Jerry), of Dothan; sisters Rebecca (Becky) Moore and Lorraine Withers, both of  Montgomery; sisters-in-law Patricia (Patty) Kosolapoff and Alexandra (Shura) Kosolapoff (Fred), both of Atlana, Ga.;  five nieces and nephews; five great-nieces and nephews; and a multitude of close friends. One great-nephew preceded her in death.

Her parents, Lorraine (Mullins) and Henry M. Andrews, Jr., both of Montgomery, also preceded her in death.
