Elizabeth Anne Segrest Meeks, 85 passed away peacefully Tuesday, July 28, 2015 at Bethany House in Auburn, AL. She was born in Tuskegee, AL May 30, 1930 to Robert and Bessie Segrest. She is survived by her husband of 65 years Robert A. Meeks, her sons Robert E. Meeks (Colleen), Andrew D. Meeks (Gail), daughter Janet M. Pettus (Dennis) granddaughter Laura E. Pettus, brother in-law Harold Meeks (Jo) and sister in-law Sylvia Meeks and 10 nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her siblings, Charles Segrest (Jo), Wilfred Segrest (Odene), Dorothy Freeman (Bill), and brother in-law Bill Meeks. Mrs. Meeks was an educator in Lee County for 25 years. She started her career as a Home Economics teacher in 1952 at Opelika High School, after graduating from API. She left teaching in 1956 for 12 years to stay home with her children. She returned to teaching after getting her Masters Degree from Auburn University in 1968 at Beauregard High School and remained there until her retirement in 1988. She was a Charter Member of Grace United Methodist Church, 915 E. Glenn Ave., Auburn, AL 36830 Visitation will be held in the Parlor of Fredrick-Dean Funeral Home Friday, July 31, 2015 from 12:45 until 1:45. The Funeral Service will be held Friday, July 31, 2015, in the Chapel at Frederick-Dean Funeral Home at 2:00 with Reverend Libba Stinson officiating. Interment will follow at Auburn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Grace United Methodist Church, 915 E. Glenn Ave., Auburn, AL 36830. Frederick-Dean Funeral Home will be directing the service. Visitation will be held in the Parlor of Fredrick-Dean Funeral Home Friday, July 31, 2015 from 12:45 until 1:45.
