Emma Dora Teakell Hall, 81, passed away Dec. 31, 2013, at Oak Park Home in Auburn, surrounded by her loving children and friends. She was born in Hubbard, TX, on July 2, 1932, the youngest of seven, to Jennie and James Madison (Jay) Teakell.
Though she always called the Lone Star state her home, she eventually settled in Opelika as a military spouse. She did secretarial work at Sears in Dallas, TX, and graduated from Opelika State Technical College (Southern Union), where she was manager of the bookstore for years. She later worked at Walmart stores in Opelika and Auburn, where she greeted everyone with a friendly smile and never met a stranger.
She was a member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir and helped with events and the youth group.
A real firecracker, Emma had a fun spirit and an uncanny luck, and she was always ready with a helping hand, a funny joke, and a cheerful War Eagle for everyone. She will be loved and missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her daughter, Cindy Hall of Pensacola Beach, FL; three sons, David (Emily) Hall of Huntsville, AL; Richard (Trish) Hall of Gainesville, GA; and Jeffrey Hall, Opelika, AL; and their father, Ronald D. Hall, Auburn; three grandchildren, Charlie Hall, Chad Hoover and Krista Hoover, and two great-grandchildren, of Gainesville, GA; a sister, Lillie Barrett, Dallas, TX; and one sister-in-law, Leta Calhoun Teakell, Temple, TX; many nieces and nephews and a multitude of friends.
Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 2, at Frederick Dean Funeral Home Parlor.
A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 3, at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, 2506 Marvyn Parkway, Opelika, with the Rev. Paul Ferrell officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Hospice, 665 Opelika Road Auburn, AL 36830.
