Frederick Harold Foster, most people knew him as Harold, was born on February 10, 1927 and passed away at EAMC on April 25, 2016. Known as PaPa to his grandchildren, he was a lifelong resident of Lee County. Born the second child of Marshall and Clyde Foster, he grew up on the family farm with his brother, Neal and his sister, Ardeth, who all preceded him in death. Harold attended Beauregard High School and at the age of 18 joined the Army. He was a World War II Veteran. After serving his country honorably, he returned to Lee County when the War ended. Shortly thereafter, he met and married his wife of 68 years, Mary Ceil Groce Foster. Harold then began a 37 year career with West Point Pepperell. Upon retiring, he utilized a skill he had learned growing up and started Fosters Deer Processing. He and Mary met many wonderful people and gained many new friends through this venture as well as their many days of camping and riding their motorcycle. Harold was a member of Hopewell United Methodist Church and the Masonic Temple in Opelika. He was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Melanie Ledbetter and Jamie Pugh. He will be greatly missed by his wife, Mary Groce Foster; children, Dianne and DeWayne Gullatt, Kathie and David Ledbetter, Debra and Randy Causey, and Freddie and Victoria Foster; grandchildren, Theresa and David Owen, Sonja and Jesse Sanders, Jennifer and John Robinson, Jeremy Gullatt, Heather and Kevin Dees, Erica and Forrest Black, Jon and Stephanie Causey, Justin and Rosa Causey, Rick Foster and Emili Foster; great-grandchildren Davis Owen, Jessica, Joshua, Ryan and Rebecca Sanders, Carter, Mary Payton and Hudson Dees, Daniel Robinson, and the newest addition, Liam, who is due in May. Also missing him is his faithful, old white bulldog, Opie, who rode many miles with him around the "Country Block". Visitation will be held in the Parlor at Frederick-Dean Funeral Home Thursday, April 28, 2016 from 10:00 until 11:15 a.m. Funeral service will be held Thursday, April 28, 2016 in the Chapel at Frederick-Dean Funeral Home at 11:30 a.m. with Reverend Drue Tubbs and Dr. Rusty Sowell officiating. Interment will follow at Hopewell United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family would like to thank Dr. Jon Commander, Hospice Advantage, and everyone at EAMC for their compassionate care and love during these difficult days. Also a special thank you to his caregivers, Mary May, Jon Hall, Jessica Hall and Debra Jackson. You filled his last days with love; Daddys battle with Alzheimers is over.
