Janice Saggus Davis of Opelika, Alabama was born in Rome, Georgia on December 23, 1950, and passed away at her home on January 29, 2017. She was 66 years old.
She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Her grandchildren were her pride, and joy. Family was of utmost importance to her, coming before all others. Mrs. Davis was very active for a variety of causes. As a 17 year survivor of Breast Cancer, she was actively contributing to Cancer Research. Janice was also an advocate for Congenital Heart Disease awareness, having a grandchild who suffered from it. A teacher at heart and by profession, she had a passion for educating children, hers as well as others. She was an avid Auburn Football fan... War Eagle!!!
After 30 years of teaching, she had recently devoted her time to volunteering in the Opelika/Auburn community. Mrs. Davis was an educator and always striving to cultivate others.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Kathleen Rosa Saggus; grandmother, Lillian Morris, and grandfather John Henry Morris.
She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Jimmy Davis; children, Eddie Davis (Kim), Kathy Stallard (Kevin), John Davis (Jennifer); father, Guy N. Saggus (Jannie); grandchildren, Bryson Davis, Kendyl Davis, Samantha Stallard, Kaity Davis, and William Stallard; brother, Gary Saggus (Becky); sisters, Diane Overstreet (Ed), Nancy Olaveson (Phillip), as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family members.
Visitation will be held in the Parlor at Frederick-Dean Funeral Home Wednesday, February 1, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon.
Graveside service will be Wednesday, February 1, 2017 at 12:30 p.m. in Garden Hills Cemetery with Tommy Ray officiating.
Flowers will be accepted or Memorial donations may be made to the following Charities: American Heart Association (www.heart.org), American Cancer Society (www.cancer.org), National Breast Cancer Awareness (www.nationalbreastcancer.org).
