Jean Farr Henderson died peacefully on Saturday, August 27, 2011 in her home in Auburn, AL surrounded by her loving family. She was born on March 17, 1920 to Patsy Bennett and Herbert Houston Farr, graduated from Alexander City High School and Alabama College for Women (University of Montevallo) and married James Henry Henderson, Jr., of Alexander City, AL in August 1940. Jean and Henry have three children, seven grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. In 1973 they moved to Auburn where she continued to provide a gathering place for her family. A full-time homemaker, she had vast interests in the arts and was an amateur potter, basket weaver, and craftsperson. She was a co-founder of the Twentieth Century Study Club in Alexander City, as well as a founding member of the Jules Collins Smith Museum of Art in Auburn and of AUALL (OLLI). She was a member of the Saugahatchee Country Club and the Auburn Women's Club. She was an avid supporter of the Auburn University Theatre. Preceded in death by her parents and her brother, John Harrington Farr, she is survived by her husband Henry, Auburn, AL; daughter Trisha Margeson (Ken), Maitland, FL; sons: James H., III, Chattanooga, TN and Stephen Farr Henderson, Opelika, AL; grandchildren: Michelle Margeson (Marco Mantovanelli) and their children Nicoló Bennett and Giacomo Duke; Kenneth "Barry" L. Margeson, Jr., and his daughter Camille Mayda; James H., IV (Heather), and their sons Zachary Archer and Heath Ogden; Helen Casey Henderson (Andrew Brown); Stephanie Marie, Spenser Farr, and Stacey Michelle Henderson; and a wonderful family of nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate donations made in her honor to University of Montevallo, Auburn Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, Auburn University JCS Museum of Art, OLLI at Auburn University, Auburn University Theatre, EAMC Hospice, or any charity of your choosing. The visitation will take place on Wednesday, August 31, 2011, 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Fredericks Funeral Home in Opelika.
