Jerry L. Shamp of Auburn, Alabama was born to the late Clifford and Lucille King Shamp in East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania on July 16, 1952 and passed away at EAMC on March 17, 2018. He was 65 years old. He is survived by his wife, Martha Duggar Shamp; children, Hayley Bryant (Charles), Bonnie Winstel (Drew), David Shamp (Danielle); and grandchildren, Bruce Bryant, Logan Bryant, Sophia Winstel. Jerry Shamp had a decorated, decades-long career with the United States Army. He served first in the infantry as a paratrooper, then later as an officer, Airborne Ranger, and a Green Beret. Further military honors and schooling include: Jump Master, Pathfinder, Army Commendation Medal (2nd OLC), Army Achievement Medal (2nd OLC), National Defense Service Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon, and many others. He later served in the U.S. Army Reserve and retired at the rank of Major. He continued to serve his community and his country through though his work at Auburn University at the Army ROTC and Air Force ROTC. He was a long-time member of Auburn United Methodist Church. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 21, 2018 in the Parlor at Frederick-Dean Funeral Home from 11:30 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel at Frederick-Dean Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Town Creek Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the USO. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 21, 2018 in the Parlor at Frederick-Dean Funeral Home from 11:30 a.m. until 12:45 p.m.
