Katherine O. Sanders, of Opelika, was born on January 18, 1935, to the late W.W. and Olivia Dickey, and passed away on May 24, 2013. She was a member of Pepperell Baptist Church, a member of the Red Hat Society, and very active at EASE House. In 2011, Mrs. Sanders was Miss Arbor Springs and went on to be the second runner-up in the Miss Alabama Nursing Home Pageant that same year in Birmingham. Mrs. Sanders loved arts and crafts and loved to read. She was a real people person. Mrs. Sanders was preceded in death by her husband, John Frank Sanders, and her sister, Linda Dickey Roop. She is survived by her two daughters, Roxanne Daughtry and her husband Carey, and Francine Tucker; her grandchildren, Christy (Jason) Smith, Natalie (Chris) Downs, Bradley Chandler, and Travis Tucker; great grandchildren, Samantha and Sara Smith; her brothers, Harold (Barbara) Dickey and Roy (Sandra) Dickey; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members. The family would like to thank the caring staff at Arbor Springs and Southern Care Hospice for their love and attention for their mom. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
