Lucy Wheeler Darrah Shaddix, age 87, a resident of Auburn, AL, passed away peacefully December 3, 2013 in Opelika, AL with her family at her side. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church. She was a 1948 graduate of the Alabama Polytechnic Institute (Auburn University) and taught school in Talladega and Shelby counties. She was born in Scottsboro, AL to the late Jesse Harrison Wheeler Sr. and the late Lucy Enochs Wheeler. She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Leon Thomas Shaddix; four children, James Robert Darrah (Karen), Sally Darrah King (Royal), Ellen Darrah Strickland (Lew), Margaret Darrah Smith (Bob); 14 grandchildren, and three great grandchildren; a brother, Robert Blackwell Wheeler, and a sister Marguerite Wheeler Harris. She was preceded in death by her husband of 19 years, James Marvin Darrah, Jr., a brother Jesse Harrison Wheeler, Jr., and a sister Sara Wheeler Grogan. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. A graveside service will be held at Maple Hill Cemetery in Huntsville, AL, Sunday, December 8, 2013 at 2:00pm, with Reverend Calvin Havens officiating.
