Mrs. Ruby Britt Russell, 85, of Auburn, was born on June 24, 1928, to the late Walter and Nell Britt, and passed away on September 7, 2013. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dallas W. Russell, and two sons, Robert Russell, M.D. and Phillip Hannah. She is survived by her children; Lynne Greenbaum, Dallas M. Russell, M.D., Drew Russell (Marilyn) and Carol Russell; 9 grandchildren; and 2 great grandchildren. Mrs. Russell graduated from Auburn University where she was a member of Delta Zeta Sorority. She was a special education teacher for over 30 years in the Chambers County school system and was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society for women educators. As a resident of Auburn for over 60 years, Mrs. Russell participated in many educational, civic and cultural organizations in the area. She was also a long-time volunteer for the East Alabama Medical Center Auxiliary. Her funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 14, 2013 at 11:00 AM CST, in the chapel at Frederick-Dean Funeral Home, Opelika, Alabama with Dr. George Mathison officiating. Visitation will be held before the service on Saturday, September 14, 2013 from 9:00 AM CST until 10:45 AM CST in the parlor at Frederick-Dean Funeral Home, Opelika, Alabama. The family requests in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the EAMC Foundation.
