Rudine Wilson, a forty-year resident of Auburn Alabama, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, May 7, 2017. She was born April 16, 1924 in the small community of Texas, Georgia, to Guy Olin Cooper and Precious Hill Cooper. Her parents, her brother James Ralph Cooper, and her beloved husband of 70 years, William E. Wilson, precede her in death. Rudine is survived by her sister-in-law, Rebecca Wilson Kinard. Children, Robert Cooper Wilson of Mobile, Alabama and Becky Hardy (Rodney) of Auburn; her adoring grandchildren, Robyn Hardy Helms (Scott), Jenny Hardy Burrage (Jeremy), Nathan Wilson Hardy (Olivia), Dr. Thomas Cooper Wilson, Clinton Hurst Wilson, Dr. Caroline Weathers Wilson, and William Caleb Wilson (Devin). Rudine had great affection for her Great-Grandchildren, Hardy and Ellie Helms, Hannah and Clark Burrage and Belle Hardy and her love extended to her very special nephews. After graduation from Handley High School in Roanoke, Alabama, Rudine began work as a bookkeeper for the local furniture store where she remained until after WWII and married her love, Bill Wilson. She followed and supported him all of his life. She told stories of their first home together, a little shack in Auburn, where they scrimped along as he completed his degree from Auburn Polytechnic Institute. She enjoyed her work and made many friends during the time she managed the stock room for the API cafeteria. Soon after their son was born, the happy couple moved to Gadsden, Alabama and remained their until after the birth of their daughter. From there, they moved to Troy, Alabama where Rudine worked as a bookkeeper for the Alabama Baptist Childrens Home and Bill was employed as Farm Manager. They both served a short term as house parents. When Bill secured a job with Auburn University Extension service, the family moved to Ashland Alabama where they remained for 22 years and Rudine was Cashier at First National Bank. In 1976, the couple returned to Auburn and both enjoyed their retired years with many friends. Rudine lived a life of joy in her faith. She taught that faith to her children and counseled them to know and love the Lord, and modeled a life of commitment. She was active in her community through clubs and associations and in her church she served as Sunday School Teacher and GA leader. Her peace was obvious to all and she loved quickly and easily. She was a faithful and loving wife and mother. Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 9, 2017 from 9:45 a.m. until the funeral hour. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Parkway Baptist Church in Auburn with Dr. Jeff Redmond officiating. Rudine will be laid to rest in Wedowee, Alabama. Pallbearers will be Rudines grandsons and grandsons-in-law. Honorary Pallbearers are Rudines dear friends from her Sunday School Class. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to the Building Fund at Parkway Baptist Church, 766 East University Drive, Auburn, Alabama 36830, or to the Alabama Baptist Childrens Home, PO Box 361767, Birmingham, Alabama 35236. Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 9, 2017 from 9:45 a.m. until the funeral hour.
