Obituary

Sarah Martin Nichols of Auburn, Alabama passed away at Arbor Springs on July 18, 2017. Mrs. Nichols was born May 20, 1931 in Jackson County, Alabama. She is predeceased by her parents, Haden and Ruth Keel Martin. Mrs. Nichols is survived by her husband of 68 years, James O. (Nick) Nichols, three children: Greg (Lynn) Nichols of Loxley, Alabama, Pam (Robert) Mayes of Huntsville, Alabama and Penni (Steve) Steverson of Tallahassee, Florida; Seven grandchildren: Jenni Nichols, Jack (Victoria) Nichols, Rob (Emily) Mayes, Jr, Kelly (Thomas) OConnor, Drew (Bekah) Steverson, Brandon Steverson and Chandler Steverson; Four great-grandchildren: Liam OConnor, Grace OConnor, Layla Smith and Robert Mayes III, due Aug. 28. One sister: Belle (Walt) Wilson, One brother: Howard (Beverly) Martin; Two nephews: Chris (Jennifer) Wilson and Shawn (Kelly) Martin, Two nieces: Beth (Glenn) Wilson Carter and Deanna Martin, Four great nephews: Reid Wilson, Nathan Wilson, Davis Wilson and Gavin Martin, Four great nieces: Meg Wilson, Allison Carter, Katie Carter and Mallie Martin. Sarah Nichols served as secretary of Wrights Mill Road Primary School for more than 20 years. She and her husband, James, joined Auburn First Baptist Church in 1960 where they were active members. Mrs. Nichols served her community as Girl Scout Leader, Auburn High School Band Parents Association member and frequent chaperone of band trips and band camp, and volunteer at Community Market. She and her husband also enjoyed square dancing with The Village Squares, RV camping with friends and volunteering at summer camps in Ridgecrest, N.C. A celebration of life service will be held at Auburn First Baptist Church on Sunday, July 23 at 2:00 pm Dr. Tripp Martin officiating. The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall immediately after the service. Flowers may be sent or donations to a favorite charity.
