Teresa L Burns, 95, of Auburn, Alabama, passed away May 25, 2017 at EAMC. She was born August 13, 1921, in Waverly, Alabama. She is preceded in death by her parents, Grady and Lidie LeSueur, a son, James David Burns, and her loving husband of 74 years, Moore J. Burns.
She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Jan H. Burns, Nashville; daughter, Kathy Burns Dickinson (Jack) Jackson Gap, AL; and son, Richard M. Burns (Allison) Alexander City; seven grandchildren: Alan G. Burns, Marietta, GA; Susan B. Dean (Gary), Nashville; Jonathan H. Burns (Elizabeth) Valdosta, Ga.; Laura H. Dickinson (Todd) Birmingham; Christy H. Nord, Birmingham; Jeffrey M. Burns (Elaine), Helena, AL, and Ann Burns White (Matt), Birmingham. She is also survived by eleven great- grandchildren, sister, Evie Ruth LeSueur Grantham and brothers, Homer Grady LeSueur (Mary Jo), and Larry LeSueur (Deborah).
She was an active member of Auburn United Methodist Church since 1950. Mrs. Burns proudly served as the first church secretary when the current building opened in 1955, and continued for 25 years until 1980, serving under Joel McDavid, Powers McLeod, Dan Jones, Charles Britt, and Jim Dannelly, Jr., among others. The church offices built in 1972-1974 were named the "Teresa LeSueur Burns Office Complex."
Her loving and caring approach to all she encountered in life, including her role as wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sibling, and friend, was widely known and appreciated. She was so well loved and will be missed by so many.
The family would like to express a special appreciation to the caring professionals at ResCare for their kindness and gentle care, especially Mandy, Venecia, Tandy, and Maria. In addition, the family extends a warm thank you to the many treasured friends and neighbors who have meant so much over so many years.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 30, 2017 from 2:00-2:45 pm in the Founders Chapel at Auburn United Methodist Church, Auburn, Alabama.
Funeral service will be 3:00 pm, Tuesday, May 30, 2017, in the Founders Chapel at Auburn United Methodist Church; with Rev. Charles Cummings officiating. Interment will follow at Auburn Memorial Park.
