Andrew "Andy" Thrift died August 12, 2022. He was known to many as "Punky".
Mr. Thrift was a resident of Opelika, Alabama. He retired from the United States Military after serving 33 years between Active and Army National Guard. He also retired from the City of Opelika where he was the superintendent of maintenance of city vehicles. He was a 32nd degree Mason. Mr. Thrift was a vital citizen to the community and was always willing to help anyone. He loved his family and friends without condition.
He is preceded in death by his wife Sally Baldwin Thrift, his parents; Laura Wood Thrift and Emory Thrift, and his sons; Steven Russell Thrift and Donnie Smith. He is also preceded in death by his 8 siblings; Wesley Thrift, Leslie Thrift, James Thrift, Richard Thrift (Peggy), Ellifair Thrift Eastridge (Hugh), Clifton Thrift, Annie Faye Thrift Hamm (Milton), Bobby Thrift (Swanee), and granddaughter, Kari Phillips.
He is survived by a special friend Carolyn Riddle; daughter, Kim Marie Thrift Phillips; daughter in laws, Vickie Sheppard Thrift and Nonie Smith Robinson. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren; Brittney Thrift, Jennifer Chambless, Taunya Ragland (Wayne), Kellie Smith, Taffie Smith, Justin Phillips (Kisha), Allen Garrett, Richie Cleveland, and Johnnie Smith. Along with several great grandchildren and host of family and friends.

There will be a graveside service at Shady Grove Cemetery in Opelika, Alabama on Monday, August 15, 2022 at 9:00 am.
