Anita Hamner Jenkins of Anniston and Auburn died peacefully at home March 27, 2015 surrounded by family and friends. She was born Christmas Day, 1941, in College Station, Texas, and grew upon the A&M campus where her father was a professor of Aero Engineering and spent summers in Vero Beach, Florida, where he was a Piper Aircraft consultant. Anita moved to Auburn when her father became part of the University Aerospace program; she attended Auburn and was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority and First Presbyterian Church; she met and married her husband in Auburn. The family moved to Anniston in 1965, when her husband joined the architectural firm of James Hoffman, AIA. Anita was a dedicated and loving wife, mother, and friend and later became a reluctant entrepreneur as owner of Pappagallo Ladies Wear on Leighton and LeMama's Restaurant in Anniston's restored L&N Railroad Depot. She is survived by her husband, Julian, of 53 years, daughter Dr. Juliane Isola and husband Kenny of Montgomery, daughter Heather Enger and husband Hjalmar of Talladega County; son Jay and wife Kim; daughter Jill and companion Rob Low, all of Anniston; grandchildren Anna Enger of Telluride, Colorado; Bennett Enger of Auburn, Alabama; Sonny and Sterling Jenkins; brother John Hamner and wife Barbara of Denver, Colorado; sister Margaret McCloud and husband Wayne of Temple, Texas; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many great friends. She is predeceased by her parents, Bennett and Juanita Hamner and her beloved Dane, Beastro. The family wishes to express deep gratitude to special friends Earlon and Betty McWhorter, Dr. Steven Davidson and staff of Montgomery Cancer Center and Hospice Advantage. A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
