Audrey G. McGrady, age 86, passed away on Monday, August 15, 2011 at Bethany House in Auburn, Alabama. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, August 17, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Pine Grove Church on US Highway 29 North in Opelika, Alabama. The Reverends Mark McCarty and Ricky Thomaston will officiate. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 1:00 p.m. until the funeral hour. She was born on March 15, 1925 in Rockford, Alabama. She graduated from Rockford High School and Opelika Business School. She retired from the Lee County Department of Human Resources, after completing 34 years of service. Mrs. McGrady and her late husband, Reverend James J. McGrady, served at Union Baptist Church in Rockford, Alabama, Waverly Baptist Church in Waverly, Alabama, Wallace Chapel Baptist Church in Pine Grove Community, and for 17 years at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Lafayette, Alabama. She enjoyed playing the piano for her church, her grandchildren, and other family and friends. She had a special love of birds and flowers and received blessings from their beauty. Mrs. McGrady will be remembered as an "encourager" to others. Through cards, letters, phone calls, and in person, she would write or speak words that were uplifting and thoughtful. Mrs. McGrady is preceded in death by her husband, Reverend James J. McGrady; parents, Lee and Clara Gandy; brother, Austin Gandy of Rockford, Alabama; and brother-in-law, Paul Price of Auburn, Alabama. She is survived by her daughter, Gayle McGrady Clark (Mark); two grandchildren, Jolee Clark and Brian Clark of Pine Grove community; sister, Louise Price of Auburn, Alabama; and sisters-in-law, Rosa Long and DeAnne Gandy of Rockford, Alabama. The family requests that memorials be given to Pine Grove Church or Hospice Advantage/Bethany House of Auburn, Alabama.
