Barbara Sue "Susie" Connally, 78, joined her Lord and Savior in Heaven on Sunday, November 24, 2013 in Franklin, Tennessee. Born in Alexander City, Alabama, on May 16, 1935, she was the oldest of four children. She graduated from Auburn University in 1959 with a degree in Home Economics. She was joyfully married for 49 years to Joe Connally, who coached Auburns defensive line under the legendary Ralph "Shug" Jordan for 26 years. She was a long time member of Auburn First Baptist Church, where she taught first grade Sunday school for many years. Susie was a devoted Christian, wife, mother, and grandmother who above all enjoyed spending time with her family and in Gods Word. Susie and Joe enjoyed trips to the beach, mountains, Walt Disney World, and Callaway Gardens as well as visiting with their children and grandchildren. At home, they enjoyed taking long walks, baking cookies and brownies together, and attending church services and functions.
Susie is preceded in death by her parents, Bogue and Leila Miller. She is survived by her devoted husband, Joe Connally; siblings Pat Stevens (Mountain Brook, AL), Doris Atkins (Orange Beach, AL), and Bogue Miller, Jr (Marietta, GA); daughter Carla Connally (Nashville, TN), son Craig Connally, daughter-in-law Patti, and her two grandchildren, Kathryn and Ryan (all from Franklin, TN), in addition to extended family and friends. Visitation will be on Friday, November 29 from 11:30 am-1:15 pm at Auburn First Baptist Church, to be immediately followed by funeral services at 1:30 pm at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that contributions or memorials be made to Auburn First Baptist Church, 128 Glenn Avenue, Auburn, AL 36830.
