Bennie "Butch" Lex Hunt Sr.

1956-2023

Bennie "Butch" Lex Hunt Sr. of Auburn, Alabama, passed away at Bethany House in Auburn, comforted by the company of his wife, his son, and his sister, on January 23, 2023. He was 66 years old.

Butch was born June 29, 1956 in Tuskegee, Alabama to Bennie and Ethel (Sego) Hunt. He graduated from Auburn High School in 1974. In 1977, he began dating Lorraine "Dee" Albert at the Auburn Church of Christ. They were married on June 13, 1978 in that same church. He was a lover of history, movies, and the Bible. He worked at the family business known to those in Auburn as the "Sani-Freeze" and took over the family business until its closing.

Butch is preceded in death by his parents Bennie and Ethel and his brother Billy Hunt.

Butch is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Lorraine Dee Hunt, and his sons Bennie Lex Hunt Jr. (Rebecca) of Abilene, Texas, Martin Atlee Hunt and his fiancé Gina of Columbus, Georgia, and Jackson Amick Hunt of Auburn, Alabama; his sisters Mary Hayes (Jim) of Columbus, Georgia, and Cherri Russell (Ronnie) of Auburn, Alabama; and his wife's brothers and sisters, many nieces and nephews and extended family.

A celebration of life service will be held Monday, January 30 at the Auburn Church of Christ, 712 S College St, Auburn, AL 36830. A short visitation will follow at the church.
