Betty June "B.J." Bynum Martin, of Opelika, Alabama passed away after an extended illness on April 14, 2012. She was 73 years of age. B.J. was born and raised in Alabama. She moved to Atlanta, Georgia in 1960 to pursue a career in insurance. After raising her children, she moved to Opelika, where she retired from Quantegy, formerly Ampex, in 1999. B.J. is survived by her children, Jennifer Martin (Mike Perkins) of Swartz Creek, Michigan, Greg Martin, Sr. (Teresa Green) of Joplin, Missouri, and Emily Martin (Pam Jones) of Opelika. She is also survived by four grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. B.J. loved her flowers, especially yellow roses and any kind of lily. She was a quiet and reserved woman, with few outside interests other than her family and her puppies. She was also a very strong willed woman and a wonderful mother. Although our loss is tremendous, she has finally found peace with Jesus. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer organization would be greatly appreciated by her children…your generosity could help us to find a cure for this evil, deadly disease.
