Charles Milton Allen
1930-2023
Charles Milton Allen (92) was born on February 22, 1930 to Andrew Jackson Allen and Flossie Mae Barlow Allen in Huntsville, Alabama. He passed away peacefully on January 15, 2023 in San Antonio, Texas as his daughter-in-law, Yolanda, was singing "Amazing Grace".
Charles spent his childhood years exploring Monte Sano Mountain in Huntsville where he loved to fish. He was known to family and friends as Catfish Charlie. The family relocated to Opelika, Alabama. It was there that he met the love of his life, Rosa Pauline Holloway. They were married September 23, 1950 in Montgomery, Alabama. Charles and Pauline had 5 children; Greg, Beverly, Susan, David Scott, and Steve.
He had a great sense of humor, loved to laugh, listen to your stories or tell one of his own and could easily be persuaded to sing a little ditty. His children have fond memories of being sung to by daddy other than the radio.
He began working at an early age and worked hard to provide for his family. He was employed by West Point Pepperell the majority of his working career as a loom fixer and then supervisor. He was mechanically inclined and designed a loom part which was patented.
He served his country in Korea where he drove an ammunition truck and was a cook. He was honorably discharged from the Army in 1952.
He was an avid gardener, famous for tomatoes and other vegetables. He could also root anything. Later in life he focused his attention on daylilies because his wife loved them and he loved her.
He was a child of God, serving as Sunday school teacher, deacon and minister in the Free Will Baptist denomination. By the world's standards he never achieved great things but rejoiced that his name was written in the Lamb's Book of Life.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years Pauline Allen, son David Scott Allen, parents Jackson and Flossie Allen, brothers AJ Ulyssus Allen, Kenneth Allen and Johnny Allen, sister Osaline Davis.
He is survived by his sons: Greg (Judy) Allen, Steve (Yolanda) Allen; Daughters: Beverly (David) Knight, Susan (Robert) Hutto; Grandchildren: Heath, Jared (Dana), Josh (Amanda), Jason, Charity (Bo), Matthew (Kimberly), Cameron, Hailey, Daniel (Alison), Aaron (Mari), Makaila; Great grandchildren: Jed, Jae, Jet, Elizabeth, Alaina, Jesse, Abigail, Cameron (Kayla), Rachel (Austin), Jordan, Carlos, Amiyah, Evan, Kayla, Haley, Christian, Trace, Maddie, Alexis, Logan, Levi, Mariano; Great great grandchildren: Callie, Carter, Briella, Everly; Brother: Billy (Derane) Allen; Sisters: Jackie Brown, Mary Ann Jones and numerous other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be Sunday January 22 from 1:00-2:00PM at the Frederick-Dean Funeral Home Parlor. A service will follow at 2:00 in the Chapel and graveside at Garden Hills Cemetery with Brother Marvin Minton officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to your favorite charity.
