Charles W
Stewart Jr
September 9, 1952 – January 2, 2023
Charles "Chuck" W Stewart Jr.
1952-2023
After a long, well fought battle with several major illnesses my beloved told me "I love you" as he crossed into his heavenly home. Surrounded by his joy, his cats, Esther, Finn, Max, Nat and little Pearl, with me holding him as he left and what was our favorite nurse from Compassus Hospice Care, April. Thirty years together is hard to sum up just here. I shall try to honor him to the best of my ability. He and I always loved the story of us. We met at Dixie Youth Baseball Field in Alabaster, Alabama. We were a family instantly and there never were any "steps" in our home. We loved and raised together our six children and though older just the same our seventh child.
His children are as follows, B.J."Big Josh" Stewart, Joshua(Laura) Garcia, Ryan Stewart, Annie Lori Stewart (deceased), Chelsea Catherine Stewart (deceased), Megan (Stephen) Hamm, and our glue Savanah Eve Stewart. An always loving father that tried beyond words to heal life hurts and to expect respect to him, me and to themselves. The truth will set you free. His greatest and most excellent part in life came with our dearly loved grandchildren starting with our first granddaughter Alexandria Stewart, first born grandson Grayson Alexander Hamm, who he swore was born with angel wings tucked in. Then with the birth of each grandchild his adoration and love for them all grew. His granddaughters Charlee "Bear" Hamm, Summer "B" Garcia, Clementine Catherine Rotta and grandsons Riley "Roo" Hamm, and Brayden "Hough" Stewart.
His loving family also includes his two sisters; Peggy (Dale) Taylor, Sally (Art) Dumais and many nieces and nephews. His beach buddy, "sista"-wife and true family Laura(Michael) Morris and niece Ashley. Also, with much respect and regard many friends but especially Curtis and Wendy Hanson and there precious family. He truly found eternal gratitude in the love shown to us by my Whitley family. He always found great comfort and joy with those he thought of as family whether they be blood or not. They surrounded him with great love.
He worked in the concrete industry most of his life. He was an avid baseball memorabilia collector and was proud of his collection displayed in his honor at the Regions Museum in Birmingham and always a loyal relationship with his Friends with Rickwood, the oldest ballpark in America.
Chuck authored the book "Angels at Rickwood, angels, conductors and Willie Mays". He was a historian and collector for Rickwood field and the Barons negro league.
He enjoyed his Harley motorcycle riding days. We faced many trials through all the years but as he would say "doing us was his greatest love".
He is proceeded in death by our twin daughters Annie and Chelsea Stewart, his awesome parents Charles and Dee Stewart, his sweet niece Jennifer Rogers.
He was and always will be a good man in my eyes and heart. His encouragement for me to paint and live life to the fullest will somehow be what will carry me through the sad days ahead. He is my love for more than half of my life for over thirty years and I am honored.
A great success in life is doing it your way, loving fiercely, fighting fiercely, respecting each other, forgiving and growing stronger from it. Job well done to my husband, father and grandfather and God's faithful servant. My eternal love.
In lieu of flowers any donation can be made for his beloved cats or can be made to Friends of Rickwood or your local Humane Society. In lieu of a service at this time we will have a Celebration of Life in the Spring to honor him the way he wanted. More information will follow as the seasons change.
