Doss Jackson Rice, age 82, of the Beauregard community in Opelika, was born in Elmore County, Alabama, March 25, 1930, and passed away at his home on June 14, 2012. He was the son of the late Mr. Johnny Rice and Mrs. Idalia Emfinger Rice. He was a member of Mt. Olive Primitive Baptist Church.
Mr. Rice was retired from West Point Pepperell after 35 years of service. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and uncle. He was an Army Veteran and served his country during the Korean Conflict.
Mr. Rice was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jean Parker Rice; and his brothers, Merle Rice and Lee D. Rice. He is survived by his daughter, Debra Jackson; son, Dennis Rice; granddaughter, Brooke Jackson of LaGrange, Georgia; grandsons, Parker Jackson and Daniel Rice; sister-in-law, Christine Chase and her husband Louie; nieces, Becky Burkett and husband Jerald of Lawrenceville, Georgia, and Carol Wilder and husband Kenneth; great nephews, Jacob Wilder and Christopher Wilder; sisters, Mary Speaks of Alexander City and Jodie McGinty of Notasulga; brother, Johnny Rice and wife Hilda of Prattville; cousin, Bruce Parker and wife Louise; and a host of other relatives; and caregivers, Michell Conner, Sue Rodarte, and Toni Long.
