E. Hilton Jones, of Auburn, Alabama was born to the late Emmitt and Bonnie Jones in Geneva,
Alabama on October 17, 1933 and passed away at Bethany House on January 12, 2017. He was
83 years old. Hilton attended and played basketball at Belmont University, later transferring to
Birmingham Southern College, where he graduated. He went on to receive a degree in Divinity
from Emory University. He served in the ministry of the United Methodist Church in many
locations throughout Tennessee and Alabama and at the First Independent Methodist Church in
Auburn. After retiring from the ministry, Hilton remained in Auburn and owned several small
businesses in the Lee County area. Retiring again in 2012, he spent the rest of his time hunting
He is survived by his wife, Carol Jones, and children, E.H. "Rusty" Jones II (Erica), Anne
Cantrell, and Maryadena McLemore; 7 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren.
Graveside service will be held Monday, January 16, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. in Auburn Memorial
Park Cemetery with Brother Cliff Knight, Brother Charles Cummings, and Brother Cory Smith
The family would especially like to thank all of the wonderful people at the Cancer Center and
Bethany House of EAMC. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St.
Jude Childrens Research Hospital or Bethany House.
