Edna Barnes Luhta

Edna, 94 ,passed away peacefully at her home in Opelika on January 12, 2025, surrounded by two of her four children.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 15 years, Thomas Luhta.

She is survived by her four children, Gina Halberstadt of Opelika; Joel (Catherine) Barnes of Opelika; Juan (Kathy) Barnes of Opelika and Chancey (Patti) of New Hope, Alabama.

She is survived by six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind her beloved dog, Lil Fox who was adopted from the Macon County Humane Society.

Edna was born Edna Chancey of Enterprise, Alabama November 22, 1930.

She lived a long and productive life. She was a devoted mother and the founder of Southern Upholstery in Opelika. Her son Joel joined the business and she later gave it to him and his wife Catherine when she retired in 2004.

She leaves behind many relatives and friends.

A private ceremony will be held Wednesday, January 22, 2025 at Frederick-Dean Funeral Home between 2 and 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Macon County Humane Society.

Frederick-Dean Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
