Emory Barto Gooden, Jr., 83, of Opelika, was born on April 15, 1931 to the late Emory Barto Gooden, Sr. and Mary Virginia Gooden. He passed away on December 7, 2014 at Bethany House. Mr. Gooden was a veteran of the United States Navy. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by his son, Ricky Lee Gooden; brothers, Harold, Eugene, ONeal, James, and Richard Gooden; sisters, Helen Gaberlavage and Sharon Clark. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Joyce Gooden; daughter, Donna Pedersen; grandchildren, Derek Pedersen, Devin Warnock, and Chance Warnock; brothers, Lewis Gooden, Wayne Gooden (Karen), and Gerald Gooden (Glenda); sister, Linda Johnson (Steve); and numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members. Memorial service will be held in the Chapel at Frederick-Dean Funeral Home on Friday, December 12, 2014 at 1:00 pm with Dr. Rusty Sowell officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:00-1:00 pm in the Parlor at Frederick-Dean Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to Providence Baptist Church, or to a charity of your choice.
