On October 15, 2013, life on this earth ended peacefully for Erva Annette Cowart Battle, our dear sweet mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was faithful to our God and Savior and set an example for her family to follow.
Erva was born to Eula Ingram and Homer Cowart in Gantt, Alabama, on January 21, 1915. She is predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Milton Evans Battle, in 1989. She is also predeceased by her brothers and sisters, Carroll Cowart, Sarah Thomas, Jo Akins, and Art Cowart.
She is survived by her son, Ron Battle (Linda), of Oak Ridge, TN, her daughter, Linda Desserre (Denis), of Houston, TX, one grandson, Scott Battle (Claire), of Chicago, IL, four granddaughters, Laurie Battle of Butte, MT, Eva Weston (Ryan) of Los Angeles, CA, Diana Arratia (Anselmo) of Houston, and Tracy Love of Houston, and three great-grandchildren, Charles Weston, Catelin Arratia, and Nora Battle. She is also survived by her sister Betty Reid of Attalla, AL, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Erva graduated from Auburn High School and enjoyed a long career at Southern Bell while in Auburn. Her southern-style cooking was excellent and enjoyed by family and friends in the Woodfield Drive neighborhood. Erva and Milton built a house and home in Auburn, a place of many happy memories. Together they gave their children and grandchildren a strong foundation of love and support.
In 1990, she went to live with her daughters family in Houston to help raise her three granddaughters. Before moving her church membership to Houston, she had been a member of Auburn United Methodist Church since the early 1950s.
Memorial donations may be made in memory of Erva to the Methodist Childrens Home, 1111 Herring Avenue, Waco, TX 76708, or the Ecumenical Storehouse, 134 E. Division Road, Oak Ridge, TN 37830.
