Beloved son of Joan Dudley Hood and Kenneth G. Hood, born June 3, 1995, arrived to his heavenly home on February 10, 2019. He was buried at Town Creek Cemetery with Rusty Sowel delivering the message. His dear friends Jackson Manifold, Sam Smalley, Wesley Hutson, Allen McGinty, Colin Nease and Jackson Harris served as pallbearers. A memorial service was held on the family farm with messages delivered by Steve Boston and Jackson Manifold.
At the age of 21, Garrett created Crown Holdings, LLC, a real estate investment company. Garrett left Auburn University in the fall of 2018 to begin his real education in January 2019. At this time, he began to fulfill his lifetime dream of growing the family business alongside his dad and steadfast mentor and friend, "Mr. Buddy."
It should be said that although Garrett was a young man, he lived a full life. He enjoyed hunting excursions as well as entertaining his friends on the farm. The companionship always meant more to him than the success of his hunt. Garrett never met a stranger. He would approach any person, extend his hand, look you in the eye and proudly announce, "My name is Garrett Hood." If he knew your name, you would most likely get a similar greeting and maybe a teddy bear hug. A friend has described those hugs as outward explosions of the love that filled his great, big heart. He enjoyed his friends growing up in Auburn United Methodist Church. He was always uplifted upon his return from Winter Retreat. He wrote after his time on this retreat, "You lift us up on wings like eagles. You are the everlasting God." His bonds with these boys and youth leaders helped forge Garrett into the wonderful man we knew.
Garrett had many plans for today, tomorrow and for his lifelong dreams and accomplishments. He would not hesitate to share them with you, if you had time to listen. But in an instant his plans changed. In his few years here on earth, he truly touched many people. We know all the people that influenced his life, but only a handful of the peoples lives who were influenced by him. It is our hope that everyone he touched will continue to be blessed with his friendship and to see what he saw, as it is well known that Garrett loved people.
His life can be described with a few simple words, he put back more than he took.
