Obituary

George W. "Spud" Smith, age 87, of Waverly, was born on March 14, 1925 in Lee County, Alabama, and died on December 22, 2012 at his residence. He was a Baptist by faith. He served in the U.S. Navy, having served in World War II. Mr. Smith is preceded in death by his late wife, Mavis Smith, and two sons David and Randy Smith. Mr. Smith is survived by his son, Joseph H. Smith and wife Patricia, Auburn; five grandchildren, Lisa and Tony Lowe, Opelika, Joey and Brandy Smith, Cusseta, Stacy and Tory Foster, Beauregard, Robin and Virgil Roberts, Auburn, and Jason Smith, Huguley; one sister, Margaret Gibbs; one brother, James Smith and wife Alice, and many nieces and nephews and other relatives. Funeral services will be held at Frederick-Dean Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, December 29, 2012 at 11 a.m. with Reverend Billy Short Officiating, Interment will follow at Farmville Baptist Church Cemetery in Auburn. Visitation will be held on Friday, December 28, 2012 from 5-7 p.m. at Frederick-Dean Funeral Home.
