Gleaves Adele Azar Hastings, born August 25, 1952, in Montgomery, Alabama, passed away on September 3, 2026, in Auburn, Alabama.

Gleaves graduated from Auburn University, a place that remained special to her throughout her life. She built a successful career as an accountant and was proud to own and operate her own business for many years. She approached her work with dedication, independence, and a strong commitment to the people she served.

Gleaves was a longtime member of Covenant Presbyterian Church, where her faith and community were important parts of her life. She also served for many years on the board of Habitat for Humanity, giving her time and energy to helping others and making a difference in her community.

Gleaves had a curious and creative spirit. She loved art and gardening, was fascinated by true crime, and had a special place in her heart for animals. She also had a gift for finding humor in almost any situation, bringing laughter and lightness even in difficult moments. Her jokes were sometimes a little mischievous, but unmistakably hers, and she always seemed to have one ready.

Gleaves will be remembered for her love for her family, her generous service to her community, and her distinctive spirit. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harmon Eujean Hastings; her parents, Zack Norman Azar and Gleaves Patterson Azar; and her beloved sister, Beth Azar Wall, and Beth’s husband, Tony.

Gleaves is survived by her devoted sons, Christopher Harmon Hastings (Laura) and Patrick Dean Hastings (Rachel); and her cherished grandchildren, Andrea Davis and Maggie Ernst. She is also survived by her siblings, Zack Azar (Sharon), Dean Azar (Julia), Mark Azar (Barbara), and Kitty Azar Simpson (Wade), along with extended family and dear friends.

A celebration of Gleaves’ life will be held on Thursday, September 10, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Covenant Presbyterian Church. A lunch will follow in the church fellowship hall.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Covenant Presbyterian Church in Gleaves’ memory.
