Mr. Gordon Travis Belcher passed away on March 12, 2011 at his Creek-side home in Opelika, Alabama. Gordon was born April 22, 1935 to the late Owen and Gertrude Belcher of Auburn, Alabama. He had recently moved back to the area from Truth or Consequences, New Mexico to care for his brother and spend time with his family. Gordon spent most of his working years in the Auburn/Opelika area: WestPoint Pepperell (1960's), Spencer Lumber Company (1970's), Belcher's Plumbing (1980's) and ending his career as a Clean Room Inspector, Intel Corporation, NM (1990's). He was certified as both a Master Plumber and Journeyman Pipe fitter. An avid outdoorsman, "Gordy" lived his 75 years to the fullest. His last journal entries show his love for fishing, his sense of humor, and his strength to "get up and go". Tues. March 1, 2011: "Caught 3 fish today with 2 worms and had fish for supper last night!" Wed. March 2: "I'll go check my hooks this morning and see if I have any fish." Gordy believed in hard work, honesty, integrity, generosity and God. Not long ago he said, "Life has a way of gittin' you when you do people wrong." "Don't ever do people wrong, you have to live with the consequences." He loved people and changed many lives by reaching out to help those he called friends. In his many roles, Dad, Grand-dad, Great Grand-dad, Brother, Uncle, Best friend (Bobby & Cindy), Fishing Buddy (Dave), Mining partner, Trapper, and most of all "COLORFULL CHARACTER", he will most definitely be missed around the fire. Mr. Belcher was preceded in death by three sisters, Floy Inez Moody Dyer of Louisiana, Doris Robinson of Opelika, AL, Bernice Ferguson of Decatur, AL; three brothers, Newton Wilson Belcher of Opelika, AL, William (Bill) Belcher of Florida, and Milton Leo Belcher of Auburn, AL; as well as a daughter, Wanda Belcher Robison. Mr. Gordon Belcher was married to Margaret Dobbs Belcher in 1953. He is survived by Ms. Margaret and five of their children, Michael T. Belcher (Priscilla) of Virginia, Larry G. Belcher (Pat) of Opelika, Sandra Belcher Melinski (Mike) of Dadeville, Kathy Annette Belcher of Opelika, and Paula Belcher Sanders of Opelika; grandchildren, Waylon, Miranda, Jennifer, Rose, Jamey, Joey, Misty, Adam, Lori, Mindy, Allen, Brandon and Tina; great grandchildren, Markus, Sami, Raiden, Odin, Rowan, Annon, Brandon, Tyler, Austin B., Haley, Julie, Aiden, Skye, A.J, Arielle, Austin R., Brad, Corey, Tate, Dustin, and Dillon; a host of nieces and nephews; two sisters, Florence Henderson of Virginia and Ellen Brantley Pate of Auburn, AL.
