Obituary

Gordon M. Stanton, age 79 of Opelika, was born on May 19, 1934 and passed away on August 31st at East Alabama Medical Center. Mr. Stanton was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was an electrican for the company who built the Uniroyal tire plant in Opelika in the early 1960s and was hired into supervision when the plant was first put into operation. In the early 1980s Gordon and wife, Doris, moved to Liberia, West Africa to be an integral part of the Uniroyal rubber plantation. They remained in Liberia for over five years and then returned to the Opelika plant where he worked until retirement. Gordon was preceded in death by his parents, Rudolph and Lucille Stanton of Columbus, Ga. And his loving wife, Doris T. Stanton. Gordon is survived by sons, Joseph Stanton of Savannah, Ga and Mark Stanton of Opelika; Step-daughter Robin Isbell Maness of Opelika and Step-son Robert Isbell of Holly Springs, NC; Grandsons Wesley Maness (Asya) of New York, Allen Stanton of Savannah, Ga, Matthew Isbell of Atlanta, Ga., Ashton Stanton of Savannah, GA and Jake Isbell of Holly Springs; Grand daughters Melanie Maness of Opelika, Katie Isbell of Rolla, Mo, Becky Isbell of Holly Springs, NC, Telissa Stanton of Savannah, Ga, and Haley Isbell of Holly Springs, NC. Great Grandson Jackson Maness of Opelika, Al and Great grand daughter Destiny Stanton of Savannah, Ga. Gordon was an avid gun enthusiast and life long member of the NRA. He loved spending time traveling and visiting family with Doris, his loving wife of 34 years. Doris passed away almost two years ago and Gordon has been heartbroken every day sincethey were soul mates on earth and will be angels together in heaven. Visitation will be held on September 7, 2013 from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. in the Parlor at Frederick-Dean Funeral Home with a Memorial Service to follow in the Chapel, with Scott Bryant officiating.
