Guy S. Smith of Opelika, Alabama was born in Lee County, Alabama September 15, 1922 and passed away July 7, 2016 at Midtown Medical Center in Columbus, Georgia. He was 93 years old. He was a member Union Grove Baptist Church and was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Opelika. He was a member of the Opelika Civitan Club. He was in the Army during World War II earning a Purple Heart with three Oak Leaf Clusters and two Bronze Stars. He was the son to the late Boykin and Mattie Lou Smith. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Annette Smith Valle; grandson, Gerald Hester; brothers Arthur Smith and J.W. Smith. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Sara O. Smith; daughters, Ann Van Nostrand (John), Paula Hester, Alexia Smith Frazier (Joey); twelve grandchildren; twenty one great grand children; three great-great grandchildren; brothers, Hal Smith (Carol), Dal Smith (Joyce); sisters, Martha Jo Dudley (John Robert), Sarah Sasser (Skeet), as well as numerous, nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family members. Visitation will be in the Parlor at Frederick-Dean Funeral Home Sunday, July 10, 2016 from 1:00 p.m. until the funeral hour. Funeral service will be in the Chapel at Frederick-Dean Funeral Home Sunday, July 10, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Russell DeLee officiating. A private family graveside will be held after the chapel service.
