Helen Herring Hinson Wise, of Opelika, was born on October 17, 1922, in Lee County, Alabama, and peacefully passed away at her home on October 7, 2012, at age 89. Mrs. Wise was preceded in death by her first husband, James B. Hinson; brothers, Lester Herring and Ray E. Herring, Sr.; sister, Betty Jean Wright; great-granddaughter, Madison Hinson; and daughter-in-law, Jane Whatley Hinson. She is survived by her husband, Bennie Wise; daughter, Peggy Hinson; sons, Paul Edwin "Eddie" Hinson, Sr. (Jane), Freddie Hinson, and Donald Eric Hinson; grandchildren, Paul Edwin Hinson, Jr. (Beth) of Birmingham; Elizabeth Pratt Young (Brent) of Screven, GA; and William Jason Hinson (Mandy) of San Diego, CA; great-grandchildren, Morgan Young, Spencer Hinson, Kate Hinson, and Karis Hinson; sisters, Mavis Chafin, Annie Ruth Cherry, Wylene Bush, and Gloria Thompson. Mrs. Wise was a long-time member of Providence Baptist Church. She served as dietician of the Providence Child Development Center for 15 years and was loved by all who knew her. The family would like to extend their special thanks and gratitude to all her caregivers at EAMC and Hospice. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Providence Baptist Church Building Fund. Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 11, 2012, from 1:00 PM until 2:45 PM at Fredericks Funeral Home.
