Hugh Hawkins Donnan of Opelika died on June 10, 2014 with his loving family by his side. He was born in Tigerville, South Carolina to the late Murphree Claude and Ernestine Hawkins Donnan. He received his undergraduate and master degrees from Furman University and his Ph.D. from UNC-Chapel Hill. An Auburn University professor for 27 years, Hugh was highly respected by his students as an educator, mentor, and friend. His compassion and dry wit will be missed. He is survived by his wife, Maureen, two sons, Patrick and Jonathan, his brother, Yates Donnan of Aiken, South Carolina. Dr. Donnan was predeceased by his sister, Lois D. Hinds.
