Mrs. Jackie Delano Ward (Herring), RN, CLNC September 8, 1949 March 31, 2016 who was born at Lee County Hospital in Opelika to Thurston and Frankie Herring passed away in her home surrounded by family and friends. Dee, as she was affectionately known, served the Office of the Attorney General of the State of Alabama in the Nurse Analyst Medicaid Fraud Control Unit. Prior to that she served as Director of Nursing at many local nursing homes in Montgomery, and Union Springs, as well as Charge Nurse at Oneida Hospital in Oneida, New York. She graduated from Troy State University at Montgomery School of Nursing in 1984. She is survived by her husband of 34 years Mr. Warren Nelson Ward of Opelika; children, Marty (Michele) Kenney of Friendswood, Texas, Marc Kenney of Gainesville, Georgia, Marcie (James) Cavaliero of Canton, Georgia, David (Melissa) Ward of Montgomery, Alabama, and Nicole (Luis) Colon of Montgomery, Alabama; brother, Bill (Shirley) Herring of Opelika, Alabama; stepsister, Diana (Charles) Lee of Mount Pleasant, Texas, Susan (Vick) Fulmer of Opelika, Alabama; 15 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, as well as all her sisters-in-law, Hazel Ward, Viona Carey, Connie Giesecke of East Townsend, Ohio. Visitation will be held in the Parlor at Frederick-Dean Funeral Home Saturday, April 2, 2016 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. CDT. The Celebration of Life service will be held Sunday, April 3, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. CDT in the Chapel at Frederick-Dean Funeral Home in Opelika with Pastor Steve Williamson of Crawford Baptist Church in Crawford, Alabama officiating. Interment will follow at Garden Hills Cemetery. Pallbearers are Jay Sims, Randy Kenney, Tyler Sims, Mitchell Kenney, Will Colon, Tristan Colon, Alex Ward, and Ethan Colon. Visitation will be held in the Parlor at Frederick-Dean Funeral Home Saturday, April 2, 2016 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. CDT.
