James Darrell Ford, known by all as Buddy, was a native of Opelika, Alabama. Buddy passed away Tuesday, September 11, 2024. He was 85 years old.
He is preceded in death by his first wife of 48 years, Carolyn Virginia Gates Ford; his brother, Jerry Ford; and his sister, Eudene Hughes. Also, his step-grandsons, Joseph Poe and Steve Thornton.
He is survived by his wife, Janice Ford, and his children James Darrell Ford II (Shirley), John S. Ford (Terri), and Dena Ford. He is also survived by his stepdaughters, Cindy (Nick) Taylor and Lynda Massey; his grandchildren, Allison (Montie) Gilbert, Angie (Stephen) Coley, Michael (Jennie) Ford, Justin (Beth) Ford, and Dylan Phillips; and several great-grandchildren.
Buddy served in the US Navy and served aboard the USS Decatur as an original plank owner. He was employed by and retired from Uniroyal after 33 years. He enjoyed social media, singing, playing guitar, fishing, playing poker, and spending time with friends and family. He was a proud Democrat and always expressed his opinions on the subject. He will be remembered and missed by many.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 15, 2024, from 4:00-6:00 PM in the Parlor at Frederick-Dean Funeral Home. A graveside service will be on Monday, September 16, 2024, at 11:30 AM CST at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery.
