Dr. James Lavaughn Johnson, 77, of Auburn, Alabama passed away on Tuesday, May 21, 2019. He was born in Jacksonville, Alabama on September 3, 1941 to the late Roland Edward Johnson and Nell Almaroad Johnson. Lavaughn served as an Agricultural Economist and later as Department Head of Agricultural Economics and Rural Sociology at Auburn University before retiring in 2001. He was a member of Auburn First Baptist Church where he served in numerous roles. Lavaughn was a member in the Kiwanis Clubs of both Dadeville and Opelika, as well as the Auburn Lions Club. He was an EMT in the Stillwaters Volunteer Fire Department and a volunteer at East Alabama Medical Center. Lavaughn was preceded in death by his brother Dr. Paul Johnson. He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years Peggy and his three children Lyle Johnson, Madison, Alabama, Todd Johnson, Atlanta, Georgia and Wade (Jami) Johnson, Auburn; grandchildren Roland (Todd) Johnson, Matilda (Todd) Johnson and Lucinda (Wade) Johnson. A memorial service will be held at Auburn First Baptist Church on Saturday, June 8, 2019 at 2:00 P.M. with Pastor Tripp Martin officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Auburn First Baptist Church Memorial Fund.
