Jerrye Ann King Smith passed away peacfully at the age of 86 on Friday, August 7, 2020. She was born May 13, 1934 in Wellington, Texas to James Luther Lawrence King and Lula Lois Hall King. Jerrye was precded in death by both her parents and her brothers, Lloyd King, Jimmy King, Danny King, and Ronnie King. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, James E. Smith, Auburn Alabama, her daughters, Kelly Smith Stokes (Joe) and Kerry Smith Rush (Derwin), son Kip Wade Smith (Beth), grandchildren Galen Rush (Jaki), Gabrielle Gaskill (Will), Camryn Stokes, Chandler Stokes, Alexandra Smith, Makenzie Smith and Isabelle Smith, great-grandchildren Henleigh Rush and Holly Rush, brother, Roy King, and numerous nieces and nephews. Jerrye Ann grew up in Pampa, Texas, where she graduated from Pampa High School in 1952. From there she attended and graduated from Texas Tech University in 1956 with a degree in Home Economics. As a military wife, she lived in seven different states raising her family and working as a real estate agent. Jerrye was a devoted Christian woman and a long-time, active member of the Disciples of Christ Christian Church and the United Methodist Church in the various places they lived. She taught Sunday school, and proudly served as one of the first female elders in the Disciples of Christ denomination. Jerrye, a.k.a., "Grandma" and "MaMa" lived life to the fullest and brought joy and laughter to everyone who knew her. She loved spending time with family and was a true light to them and to her countless friends. A private service is planned for Tuesday, August 11, 2020 at the Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to support the wonderful Alzheimer REACH Program at the Auburn United Methodist Church, PO Box 3135, Auburn, Alabama.
