Jerusha Ray Whitaker, 82, passed away Monday, February 19, 2018 in Atlanta, Georgia. Jerusha will be remembered and missed for her strong faith, positive attitude, kind heart and radiant smile. Born June 12, 1935, in the Armstrong Community of Macon County, Jerusha was the daughter of the late James Dubberley Ray Sr. and Henrietta Ward Ray. Jerusha graduated Auburn High School in 1953 and attended Auburn University where she obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in 1957. She was a member of the Kappa Delta Sorority. After graduation, she moved to Augusta Georgia to begin her professional career with the Georgia Power Co. She later became an educator with the Richmond County Exchange program and was the hostess of a local television program, "Agriculture is King". She continued to work within the University of Georgia Education System until her retirement. Soon after moving to Augusta, Jerusha met and married Barney B. Whitaker Jr., a banker with The Georgia Railroad Bank and Trust Company. Jerusha was preceded in death by her husband Barney B. Whitaker Jr. of Augusta and her brother James D. Ray and his wife Becky from Americus, Georgia. Survivors include her son Barney B. Whitaker III and wife Fran N. Whitaker of Atlanta, Georgia; her grandchildren Daniel R. Whitaker and Mary Alston Whitaker; nieces Kathy Ray of Auburn, Alabama and Ginny Johnson and husband Mark of St. Simons Island, Georgia; and many other great nieces and nephews. Visitation will be at 11:30 a.m. CST on Saturday, February 24, 2018 at Armstrong United Methodist Church. preceding the service at the Church with burial to follow the service at the Armstrong Church Cemetery. Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 CST p.m. on Saturday, February 24, 2018 at Armstrong United Methodist Church, 3810 County Road 53, Notasulga, Alabama 36866, (Intersection of Co. Rd. 54 and 53, Wire Rd.). Visitation will be at 11:30 a.m. CST on Saturday, February 24, 2018 at Armstrong United Methodist Church. preceding the service at the Church with burial to follow the service at the Armstrong Church Cemetery.
