Jo Ann Owens Nevin, 75, a 40 year resident of Auburn, AL, passed away peacefully on April 3, 2017, at her daughters home in Gainesville, FL, after a one and a half year long battle with cancer. She was a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, mother-in-law, and friend who was an inspiration to family and friends and will be dearly missed. She had a deep love for her family and cherished spending time with all. Her smile would light up the room and her unique, quick wit and sense of humor was endearing. To know Jo Ann was to love Jo Ann. The number of lives that have breathed easier because she lived are too numerous to count. Her memory will be eternal and her generosity unparalleled.
Mrs. Nevin was born in Lanett, AL and graduated from Lanett High School in 1960. She was trained in bookkeeping and spent the last twenty years of her career with the CPA firm Machen McChesney until she retired in 2003. She developed cherished lifelong relationships with clients and co-workers who valued her expertise and friendship. She was a member of Auburn United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Nevin was preceded in death by her parents Harvey Owens, Sr and Mabel McGill, sisters Dorothy Bartlett and Susan Sims, son Charles Nevin, Jr., and grandson Jebidiah Walker Searcy.
She is survived by her husband of 50 years Charles Nevin, Sr.; children Owen Searcy (Stephanie) and Rhonda Nevin (Michael Bickelhaupt); stepchildren David Nevin (Lynda) and Charles Nevin (Tracy); siblings Barbara Rowell (Gary), Kathy Hanes (Tom), Karen Lusk-Smith (Gregg), and Harvey Owens, Jr. (Joann); grandchildren Owen Searcy, Jr., Joshua Searcy, Jericho Searcy, Savannah Searcy, Wesley Nevin, William Nevin, and Charles Nevin, Jr.
Visitation will be held in the Parlor at Frederick-Dean Funeral Home on Saturday, April 8, 2017 from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m.
Graveside Service will be held Saturday, April 8, 2017 at Town Creek Cemetery at 3:30 p.m.
Mrs. Nevin had a love for animals and any memorials may be made to the Lee County Humane Society. The family would also like to send a special thanks to Haven Hospice and Granny Nannies, especially Angela Griffin of Gainesville, Florida for the love and care that they provided.
