Joaquin Rubio, Sr.
1934-2022
Joaquin Rubio, Sr. was born to the late Leandro and Consuelo Espinosa Rubio in El Paso, Texas on May 11, 1934 and passed away at Bill Nichols Veterans Home on February 7, 2022. He was 87 years old.
Joaquin attended High School at El Capitan High School in Jefferson County, El Paso, Texas Class of 1952. He was also a proud Member of Purpose Baptist Church in Opelika.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Netty Louise Rubio.
He is survived by his children, Charlotte Louise Rubio, Joaquin Rubio Jr. (Terri), Consuelo E. Segrest Justice, Carmen Netty Rubio, Roberto Devon Rubio (Gina); 9 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
Jack was a career soldier in the U.S. Army. He received a paratrooper certification on October 17, 1956 with the 11th airborne division. He became a master paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne division on April 3, 1961. In a citation reviewed by Staff Sergeant Joaquin Rubio it states distinguishing himself by exceptionally meritorious service from July 1967 to May 1970 during this period he served consecutively as squad leader, company A, first battalion, 506th infantry, 101st Airborne division; operations sergeant, first for headquarters commandant, 6th infantry division and later for headquarters commandant, headquarters United States Army Training Center and Fort Campbell. Sgt Rubio's performance of outstanding leadership of duties which listed many of commendations and merits. Joaquin also served proudly in Vietnam War.
Visitation will be held in the Parlor at Frederick-Dean Funeral Home Saturday, February 12, 2022 from 9:30 until 10:30 a.m.
A graveside service will follow at Garden Hills Cemetery Saturday, February 12, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Tom Grantham officiating. Full Military Honors will be rendered.
He was a loving father, husband, and business owner detailing cars, a great friend to many people and will be greatly missed.
