John W. Thomas Jr. 1945-2021 John W. Thomas, Jr. was born on December 2, 1945 in Opelika and went home to be with his Lord on May 28, 2021. He was 75 years old. Mr. Thomas was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was a faithful member of Liberty Baptist Church and served in many capacities over the years. He served in the Navy from 1966-1970 and retired from the Naval Reserve after 20 years of service. He worked for West Point Stevens for 29 years and for Lee County Board of Education for 12 years until his retirement. He was preceded in death by his father, J.W. Thomas; his mother, Lullene Jenkins Thomas; and his sister, Nancy Thomas. He is survived by his wife, Lola Thomas; his daughters, Terrie (Scott) Stanfield; and Melanie Stanfield; grandchildren Scott Jr. (Kelsey), Elana, Micah, Melissa Shae, Sarah, and Ryan; 9 great grandchildren; his brothers, Ray (Kay) Thomas and Steve (Connie) Thomas; and a host of nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. Visitation will be Tuesday, June 1, 6:00-8:00 p.m. in the Parlor at Frederick-Dean Funeral Home. Funeral service will be Wednesday, June 2, 2021, 2:00 p.m. at Liberty Baptist Church in Opelika with Pastor Frank Chappell officiating.
