Ms. Julia Leigh Burdell, of Beulah, was born on September 13, 1994, and passed away in Opelika on January 5, 2012. She was 17 years old, and was of the Baptist faith. Ms. Burdell was a Junior at Beulah High School; an honor student, a member of the Beta Club, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Math Club, Marching and Concert Band. She was a second degree Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do and a volunteer at East Alabama Medical Center. Ms. Burdell was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Herbert and Jean Burdell. She is survived by her parents, Christy Sims Burdell and John C. Burdell; maternal grandparents, Dot and Lamar Sims; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, many friends, and her boyfriend, PFC Josh Sanford.
