Obituary

Lawrence Edward Wall, Sr. 1936-2022 Lawrence Edward Wall, Sr., 86, of Millbrook, Alabama died July 14, 2022, after a lengthy illness. Surviving him are his wife of sixty-six years, Veta Eloise Sobera Wall, two daughters-Karen Eloise Wall Porter (William) of Auburn, Al., and Elizabeth Ann Wall Johnson (John) of Prattville, Al., and two sons-Lawrence Edward Wall, Jr. of Charlotte, N.C., and Robert Scott Wall (Ada) of Pensacola, Fl. Mr. Wall had seven grandchildren- William Charles Porter, Jr. of Enterprise, Al., Christopher Steven Porter (Cynthia) and Jon Weston Porter of Auburn, John Michael Johnson and Matthew Boman Johnson of Prattville, and Cary Frances Wall and Elizabeth Grey Wall of Pensacola, and three great grandchildren-Carter Speight Porter and Steven Marshall Porter of Auburn and Rilee Logan Johnson of Prattville. One sibling remains, Beverly Ann Wall Boozer of Clanton, Al. Mr. Wall is survived by numerous loving nieces and nephews. The youngest of seven children born to Robert Bruce Wall and Thelma Louise Moore Wall in Danville, Kentucky, Mr. Wall returned home with the family to Alabama during WWII when his father was asked in 1942 to run the shops of the Southern Railway as Master Mechanic in Selma, Al. Mr. Wall was educated in the Selma Public Schools, culminating in his graduation in 1954 from Albert G. Parrish High School. Upon graduation, he joined the Marine Corps, receiving basic training at Parris Island, S.C. In December of 1955, he was married to Veta Eloise Sobera at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Selma, at which time they moved to Fredericksburg, Va., where they lived while Mr. Wall was stationed at the Marine Corps Base in nearby Quantico. By 1961 the young family found themselves home again in Selma. In 1963 he took a position in the tool room at All Lock Co. in Selma and remained there for the next thirty-seven years, being -quite literally—the last employee to walk out of the door of the plant. By the time of his retirement, he had for many years been chief of engineering for the company, often flying to Detroit and Japan as he worked closely with both the Chrysler and Ford Motor Companies and, later, with Honda. Mr. Wall had several passions, among them golfing, fishing, Crimson Tide football, any book ever written on WWII, and caring for his constant companion, his dog "Fella." By his family he will be remembered lovingly as the man who could, and would, fix, build, or install anything for a loved one and who until he could no longer drive was "on duty" as his wife's beloved "chauffer". A service of Celebration and Thanksgiving for Lawrence Edward Wall, Sr. will take place at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, Auburn, Al., on Wednesday, July 20, 2022, 2:00 p.m. with the Reverends Robert H. Blackwell, Mark E. Waldo, Jr., and Michael Harber officiating. Committal will be at New Live Oak Cemetery, Selma, Al., at a date to be announced. The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, memorials be made either to St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Selma, Al., St. Michael's and All Angels' Episcopal Church in Millbrook, Al., Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Auburn, Al., or to your favorite humane shelter.
