On Friday, January 18, 2013 surrounded by his loving family, Retired US Army SFC, Marvin E. Thomley peacefully exchanged his earthly life for his heavenly home. On November 14, 1935 he was born in Mobile, AL to parents Murray R. and Eunice M. Thomley.
Retired US Army SFC Thomley proudly served his country for twenty-three years, which included three tours in Vietnam. He received the Purple Heart Medal of Honor for the combat injuries received during one of these tours. During his tenure and at the time of his retirement, he received numerous other awards and medals for his many accomplishments.
As proud as he was to serve his country, his greatest achievement was serving his Lord Jesus Christ. In July 2010 he received his minister's license in the CH congregation and spent the remainder of his life obeying the great Command, Mathew 16:15 "Go Ye into all the world and preach the Gospel to every creature." His awards received serving his country do not compare to the rewards he is now receiving for obeying this great Command.
He was predeceased by his father, Murray Thomley; his daughter, Sherry Thomley; and his granddaughter, Jennifer Thomley.
He is survived by his mother, Eunice M. Thomley, of Mobile, AL; his wife, Janice Keith Thomley, of Opelika, AL; his sons, Anthony Thomley and Randolph Thomley of Marion, IL, Marty Thomley of Enterprise, AL, Steve Thomley of Dadeville, AL, Dwayne Sink of Moro, AR, David Langdon of New York, NY, Timmy Langdon of Beulah, AL; his daughters, Kay Yates of Dadeville, AL and Jan Ross of Soddy Daisy, TN; 19 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; a sister and brother-in-law, Marilyn and Philip Williams, of Mobile, AL; sisters'-in-law, Lisa (Robbie) Creed and Mary (Tommy) Randall of Opelika, AL; nieces and nephews, and other family members.
