Obituary

Max Lendell Washington, born May 20, 1928; born again by faith at the age of twelve while he was plowing with two mules on his family farm; fell asleep in Christ on December 28, 2015. He was a long-standing member of Farmville Baptist Church. Max was preceded in death by his parents, Patrick Isaiah and Inez Washington, his brothers, George and Lavelle, his sister, Wilda, and her husband, Lyman. He is survived by one sister, Martha. Max is also survived by his wife, Edna, his sons, John and Lynn, his daughter, Deborah, his grandchildren, Hannah, David and Jonathan, and many nieces and nephews. Max graduated from Auburn High School, Auburn University, and was a commissioned officer in the United States Navy, where he traveled the world and served aboard ship as well as at the Pentagon in Washington, DC, where he met and married his first wife, Sarah Ann, who now resides in Pell City. After his naval service, Max joined Liberty National Life Insurance Company as an agent and later served in management, moving the family around the states of Alabama and Mississippi. His salesmanship skills earned him several promotions and annual trips to Torch Club conventions in exotic locales such as Jamaica and the Bahamas. He earned the designation CLU, Certified Life Underwriter. When Max was in his late 40s, he joined the Army National Guard where he retired as a Captain. Upon retirement from Liberty National, Max started another career selling real estate, becoming a Realtor and Broker. When Max wasnt selling land, he traded cars, horses, dogs, and boats. He loved going to yard sales and estate sales, gathering collections of rare books and vintage glassware. Max was always positive and upbeat, never one to complain or condemn. Always, whenever he was asked how he felt, he replied that he was the healthiest man he knew. Even in his recent hospital stay, after undergoing major surgery, when the nurse asked him if he needed a pain pill, he refused, saying he was not in pain. Max Washington was stalwart to the end.
