Obituary

Michelle Westmoreland 1943-2022 Enid Michelle Joyce Lawson Mathison Westmoreland passed on as peacefully as can be on January 18, 2022, in her lovely home looking out onto the garden she helped to create. Her passing came just one minute after receiving a loving phone call from her grandson Charlie in Virginia. Michelle lived a good life, but for those of us that loved her, not anywhere near long enough. Michelle, also known as Mickey, Mom, Grandma or Nana, was a master gardener, cross-stitcher, quilter, runner, reader of history and biographies, teacher, student of so many interests, and most of all, the dearest and kindest person any family could want. Her husband Tom says, "Michelle was my soulmate for 20 known years, she was also my everything – my honey, my baby, my love, my gift from our Guardian Angels." Michelle was a low-key, private, simple person that was interested in those around her. She asked for no memorial service but was open to something else that we want to do for her and you. Her favorite film was "The Princess Bride," so her family is inviting folks to The Hotel at Auburn University & Dixon Conference Center, 241 S. College Street, Auburn, AL 36830, on March 2, 2022, her 79th birthday, to enjoy this film together. We will gather at the hotel between 10:30 until 11:00 am, and the film will be screened at 11:00 am and ending before 1:00 pm. (The hotel parking deck has self-parking for $5, valet for $10, also there will be no reception or visitation at the hotel. Family ask that mask be worn.) Afterwards, weather permitting, those interested and able are invited to travel to Keisel Park, 520 Chadwick Lane, Auburn, AL 36832, the site of our large and happy Wedding Festival in 2003, for a picnic and fellowship. We have plans with the Auburn Parks and Recreation Department for a permanent bench at Keisel Park that will say simply, "Come sit a spell with Michelle." Please bring a box lunch and a lawn chair! If anyone wants to make a little donation in her memory, send it to either the Auburn Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, P.O. Box 669, Auburn, AL 36831, where we met and were spiritually nourished, or to Hospice Angels, 1171 Gatewood Dr., Bldg. 100, Auburn, AL 36830, whose staff lovingly cared for her for nearly three months at the end. Kindly indicate on the check, "In Honor of Michelle Westmoreland." Thank you everyone and continue to take care of your goodness.
