Milton L. "Buddy" Graves, Jr.
1930-2022
Milton Locke Graves, Jr. known to most as "Buddy", was an achiever with a tinkerer's mind who enjoyed many hobbies from art to flying. He was primarily known for his work on antiques from old cars to furniture and there wasn't much of anything he couldn't fix, build or re-build. He collected special items, one being antique clocks. His home was always ticking or chiming on the hour or half hour. One of those clocks stood still for a moment, April 4th around 4:25 p.m. and a treasured soul was received in heaven to join some of his family and friends.
He was born May 3, 1930, in Birmingham. After serving in the army during the Korean conflict, he attended API (Auburn University) and finished with a degree in Building Construction, in 1954. He was a member and President of the Sigma Chi fraternity. His working career began with Goodyear and years later he retired from Auburn University. He served on many boards throughout his life, from the Auburn University Federal Credit Union, Jaycees, to the East Alabama Old Car Club, as a charter member and President for many years.
He was pre-deceased by his parents, Milton and Ruby Graves; and two older sisters Zelda Carson (Carl) and Jane Shamburger (Riley).
He married Anne Cullars Graves and together raised their three daughters: Sheree, Melody, and Lisa and two grandchildren: Jemison and Cole.
He later married Shyrel Wilson Dubberley and was very close to her children and grandchildren: Dena (Rodney), Keri (Todd), Frank and Brady (Tiffany), Haydin, Zane, Dake, Bradi, Sacker, AlleAnn, Kerilyn and Brinkley.
Buddy Graves loved life and without doubt did it his way. One of the last things he said to us was "I had a good life". I don't think it's ever easy to lose a parent, grandparent or friend, but I know for sure heaven gained a special man loaded up with funny stories and sayings-well said. Rest in Peace, Daddy.
Visitation will be held in the Parlor at Frederick-Dean Funeral Home Friday, April 22, 2022 from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m.
