Randal Joseph Hudon
1957-2020
Randal Joseph Hudon gained his wings and moved to his eternal home on October 29, 2020. A native of the Sunshine State, Randy was born June 15, 1957 in Cocoa Beach, FL to H. Normand and Lois Hudon. After a short time in Tennessee, his family moved to Milton, FL where he lived until going to college at Auburn University. Randy, from a relatively young age, wanted to pursue a career in flying.
He attended Auburn University on an Air Force ROTC scholarship and earned ROTC distinguished graduate recognition in route to a Bachelor of Science degree in Aviation Management in 1979. He later earned a Masters of Business Administration from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and an Executive Management Certificate from the Universityof Virginia Darden Business School in 2003.
He received his Air Force pilot training in Enid, OK and spent several years there as a T-37 Instructor Pilot and Academic Platform Instructor developing a love of teaching. He then moved to Biloxi, MS where he was Chief Pilot/Executive Officer for the 53rd Weather Reconnaissance Wing "Hurricane Hunters" flying WC-130 aircraft. He flew through a number of hurricanes, filmed Space shuttle launches and helped with drug interdiction in the Gulf of Mexico. His final military assignment took him out of the cockpit while he served as the Commandant of Cadets, Administrative Officer and an Assistant Professor of Aerospace studies (AFROTC) at North Carolina State University. He continued his love of teaching there before deciding to leave the Air Force after 10 years of service.
Randy joined BellSouth as a line pilot and later Chief of Safety then Director of their Aviation Subsidiary. He worked hard to make it a true center of excellence and "Top of Class" for aviation units in the country. Randy led the corporate aviation team, commercial travel business and corporate meeting planning organization. He chaired Auburn University's Aviation Management Advisory Council and held positions on Auburn's College of Business Advisory Board, Mt. Bethel Christian Academy board, and the Evergreen Retreat center, LLC. He also served as the Chair of the Georgia Governor's Aviation Task Force and Implementation Team, National Business Aviation Association Board of Directors, the NETJETS' Corporate Advisory Council, the Georgia Business Aviation Association Board of Directors, Grillers Worlds Inc. Board of Directors, the Certified Aviation Manager Governing Board and the Flight Safety Foundation Corporate Advisory Committee. In 2020, he was awarded spot on the National Air and Space Museum's Wall of Honor in Chantilly, VA recognizing him as a person with a passion for flight.
Upon BellSouth's merger with AT&T, Randy took early retirement and started his own consulting firm, Aviation Leadership Group, working with multiple aviation companies and the State of Georgia on aspects of aviation including aircraft purchasing, leadership training, aviation structure and organization, and executive staff procurement. An active member at Mt. Bethel United Methodist Church, he took on the role of Director of Missions to bring some business organization to the missions area. Later, he took over as Director of Finance where he stayed until 2017. He was able to oversee the acquisition and conversion of property for the Mt. Bethel Christian Academy High School, additions and renovations of the pool and tennis courts and see the first Camp Winshape at the property.
Randy was given awards many times over the years but his greatest "accomplishment" was his family. Many of his career choices were made to make him available to his family. He met his wife of 39 years, Cynthia (Cindy), at Auburn. They enjoyed many years of travel and fun before starting their family ten years after their marriage. They have been blessed with three children: Rachel Rebecca Hudon of Marietta, and Cody Randal Hudon and Kyle Hamilton Hudon both students at Auburn University. Randy participated in their lives in a big way coaching untold seasons of t-ball, baseball, football, softball and more. He was active with both his boys in scouting and was proud to see them both become Eagle Scouts. Involvement at Mt. Bethel UMC was a large part of the family's day to day life and included Randy coaching various sports. His pride and joy: his children.
He is survived by his wife, Cindy; children, Rachel, Cody and Kyle; his mother, Lois Hudon Corey; his brothers John (Leigh) Hudon and Richard Hudon and sister, Donna (Richard) Corey; nine nieces, four nephews, three great nieces and one great nephew.
He was preceded in death by his father, Dr. H. Normand Hudon.
