Robert Noble Allgood
1953-2022
Robert Noble Allgood went to be with God on May 17, 2022. A dedicated husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend, Robert was admired for his love, hard work, and devotion to family. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Born on January 3rd, 1953 in Birmingham, Alabama to Robert H. Allgood and Mary Noble Allgood, Robert—or "Bobby"—grew up running barefoot in and around his Montgomery childhood home before developing a passion for electronics at an early age. After graduating from Jefferson Davis High School in 1971, Robert completed a year in the US Army, completing his Basic and Advanced Individual Training. Following that, he headed to Auburn University and continued to serve in the Army Reserves. He graduated from Auburn in March of 1976 with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, after which he continued with graduate studies in advanced electrical engineering at Auburn as well.
During his time at Auburn, Robert met his future wife, Gayle McKinney. The two dated for a few years before marrying on April 28, 1979 and moving west to start their life together in Austin, Texas. Robert and Gayle proudly raised three children in Texas: Andrea, Neal, and Shannon. He instilled in his children a love of music (particularly classic rock and low brass), science fiction (especially Star Trek, Star Wars, and Doctor Who), and Auburn football. He was particularly fond of The Beatles, whose discography provided the soundtrack of the Allgood household.
Robert had a long career with Motorola, later known as Freescale and then NXP Semiconductors. Throughout his tenure, he registered multiple patents while developing and optimizing countless semiconductor components. Robert retired from NXP in December 2021, having worked there for 44 years. His second home in Austin was Covenant United Methodist Church, where he and his family have attended for close to forty years. Throughout that time, Robert was a mainstay at Sunday School and Sunday worship services, and served on multiple committees and in several leadership positions.
Robert is survived by his loving wife Gayle; father Robert H. Allgood; children Andrea Carter (Jay), Neal Allgood (Jayme), and Shannon Ray (Collin); grandchildren Anna Allgood, Maya Carter, and Ben Allgood; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Robert was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Noble Allgood, and step-mother, Martha Little Allgood.
